Does anyone have software installed that reports the uptime on the various services that are running on the server?
what I would like:
1) obviously, the software to email me when a service is down
2) a simple web/online reporting feature that is realtime, that says XYZ service has been up since [date]
the reason is so I can show on website, "Hey look, my service has been running for this long and has not gone down".
I'm not to good at unix, so installing it would need to be "easy" *grin*
The free tool from the alahost store is not an option ( as I believe its not up and running)
thanks

CL,
You're correct in that the server monitor is currently not running. It was sending out reports that, while appear to be real and valid, they were too sensative. I even tried to make it work a little harder and still it was sending out positive reports about short term problems. I had it set to wait 10 seconds and try again if it found an error. Maybe I should have set that for a minute or so. I'll get back to it soon but I have had other projects taking up my programming time.
There are several tools that can tell you what is running in real time but not a history. Many services are reset regularly throughout the day/week so their up time will not be very long.

I use Alertra http://www.alertra.com for server monitoring. It costs a few bucks / month but it works well.
