Differences between various types of ssl certificates

Post by cosmos » Mon Feb 21, 2011 9:26 pm

Hi,

there many types of certificates and I want to know if there is any difference in security they provide.
For example, does an 256 bit expensive cert provide higher level of security than a low cost 256 bit cert? Is there any difference in the encryption they provide?

Thank you

Cosmos,
256-bits is 256-bits. What "I think" you're paying for is the band name.

One thing that does make a difference in security is the bits in the certificate KEY. At one time they were 256-bit then 1024. Now many servers require 2048-bit keys for "security reasons".

I thought so. You pay more and you get these fancy "seal" images.

Thank you Arf
